I wanted to hop over here and get you interested and even excited in participating in the City Nature Challenge that starts tomorrow and runs for four days. Check out all the information here https://www.citynaturechallenge.org/
Each “city” is hoping to capture more observations than they did last year. One city will come out on top with the most observations of all. Will it be yours?
James and I went to a local event a couple of weeks ago where we learned about this event and how easy it is to participate. There are only a few steps.
Download the iNaturalist app or access their platform online at https://www.inaturalist.org/
Take as many pictures as you can of WILD plants, animals, fungi, seaweed, bacteria, lichen, etc, or evidence of their presence such as feathers, scat, or prints.
Upload pictures into iNaturalist (if you didn’t take them within the app).
Try to identify your specimens and help identify pictures taken by others.
Pat yourself on the back for participating in citizens’ science and contributing to a growing body of documentation of what is living where!
I can’t wait to see what I will find.
Given that yesterday was Earth day I also encourage you to look for Earth day events that may be happening in your community this weekend. Our nature center is hosting an event with booths, skill sessions, and learning. What is happening in your neighborhood?
